If your business is dependant on promoting a product or service on the Internet, is simply has to appear on the front page of Google. This is mainly due to the fact that most internet consumers do not look beyond the front page of Google when searching for products or services. This argument does not necessarily apply to websites that are used mainly as a 'brochure' (reference) site. Most websites however, are established with the sole purpose of being found on the Internet to convert virtual shoppers to customers.

The goal of achieving a front page ranking on Google is very much like the quest for the Holy Grail for most website owners. In most cases, this goal will never be achieved and the website owner will remain frustrated and become disillusioned about their online presence.
We often get comments from business owners that they get very little or no traffic to their website, even though the website has been in existence for many years. This is often followed by justification such as 'no one is looking for us on the Internet'. This is a false conclusion. The reality is that the website is largely invisible on the Internet as Google uses keywords and keyword phrases to connect consumers to websites. This is like a post or zip code on a physical address. If the post/zip code does not appear on a letter, the post office has no way of knowing exactly where the letter should be delivered to and it will never arrive at it's intended destination.
This analogy applies to Google as well. Google connects Internet consumers to websites through the words and phrases that consumers type into a search engine. If the particular word or phrase used by a shopper is not found by Google on your website, the search engine simply looks for other websites that contain the words or phrases, and directs the consumer to the most relevant websites.
This is where most websites fall down. A website is established without keyword research ever being conducted. Keyword research is what reveals what consumers are looking for on the Internet, and more importantly, how they search for products and services. We use tools that interrogate search engines such as Google to reveal the search words and phrases that Internet shoppers are using on a daily basis.
A search engine like Google is simply a great pieace of software that contains millions of words and phrases that people use on the Internet when they search for products and services. It is also essential to get an understanding of the search volumes for particular words or phrase, as well as the number of online advertisers that are competing for the same words or phrases online.
Google is simply a sophisticated online advertising platform that connects Internet shoppers to business advertiser's websites. It should therefore be clear that a website without high quality keywords, is like a car without an engine. It goes nowhere!
